At the core of our mission to simplify hotel search and booking lies an experienced engineering team that drives innovation to take our metasearch engine to the next level. Our SRE team is responsible for the kafka, kubernetes, and database resources that tech teams throughout the company depend on to shape our product and provide valuable insights into our data. As a Site Reliability Engineer for big data in our team, you will help our company to move fast without breaking things! You'll provide business-critical infrastructure for big-data streaming and processing for both our product and data teams, as well as expert guidance on how to get the most out of our platform. How you’ll make an impact:

  • Provide guidance and expertise to teams that build stream processors and use kafka to process and propagate data throughout the company
  • Collaborate with our data engineering teams on our Cloud big data footprint e.g. BigQuery in Google Cloud
  • Help our software engineering and data teams to deploy and manage their data pipelines on Google Cloud
  • Be part of our fully paid “on-call” rotation
  • Collaborate with our product teams by providing reliable RDBMS and streaming solutions
  • Provide architectural guidance e.g. schemas, sharding, replication, CDC etc., which influence design for reliability, scalability and performance
  • Improve the reliability, stability, and efficiency of our our streaming system
  • Debug issues in production across multiple levels of the stack
  • Contribute to runbooks, documentation, and our company’s technical blog

What you'll need to thrive:

  • At least 4 years' experience in a Site Reliability Engineering/Platform Engineering/DevOps role or similar
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a deep understanding of network protocols and database operations
  • Experience with Kubernetes and GCP cloud both as an admin and user
  • Previous software development experience in one of: Python, Golang, Rust, Java or any other modern programming language
  • Extensive knowledge of Kafka, relational databases, file systems and Linux
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Thano, and experience using Github Actions
  • Proficiency in building CI and CD pipelines
  • Experience working with container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes

  • Solid expertise in: Istio, Hadoop, Spark, Dataflow, Apache Flink, Apache Airflow, Big Query, MySQL
