The role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated, process driven Tax Manager to join the Tax team and oversee our US indirect tax compliance and reporting processes as well as our processes with respect to indirect taxes in various other countries (RoW) we operate in (excluding VAT).

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with US sales taxes, specifically with respect to SaaS supplies and marketplace facilitator duties. Experience in a public company environment and with software enablement for US indirect tax compliance is preferred for this role. This position will report to the head of tax, and it will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of TravelPerk’s indirect tax processes in the United States and its indirect and digital tax processes in RoW countries, including tax compliance, audits, research and planning.

This role will be based from our Barcelona hub and, while we do offer certain flexibility, the responsibilities of the role require you to be in the office 3 days per week.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and manage the US and RoW indirect tax accrual and compliance processes for TravelPerk’s subsidiaries, including the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the respective internal controls.
  • Manage and oversee tax registrations and the periodic indirect tax returns filing processes in all in-scope jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with deadlines and existing tax laws and regulations. Liaise with our external consultants in this respect.
  • Review and approve tax returns, reconcile tax returns with the ERP, maintain appropriate audit trails and manage and resolve tax audit issues. Review sales tax language on vendor and supplier contracts for proper sales tax determination. Conduct comprehensive tax research and analysis on various sales tax issues.
  • Drive the implementation of software enablement for the US indirect tax function (and with respect to RoW indirect and digital taxes) and utilize / maintain the tax engine going forward. Identify automation opportunities to drive process efficiencies, quality improvements, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide guidance to the finance, accounting, legal and operational teams with respect to in-scope and partner closely with key members of other business functions and teams on relevant tax matters.
  • Support and drive ad-hoc projects within a broader tax context. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of global tax policies, procedures and controls.

What You Need

  • At least 6 years of progressive experience in the area of US indirect tax compliance and reporting, preferably a mix at a large public accounting firm and a U.S. publicly traded corporation.
  • Strong knowledge and extensive experience with US sales taxes, specifically with respect to SaaS supplies and marketplace facilitator duties.
  • Demonstrated experience in indirect tax compliance and tax legislation analysis.
  • Experience in the US hospitality sector preferred, experience with US lodging and car rental taxes a bonus.
  • Experience in a SOX controlled, public company environment preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with accounting / tax software (NetSuite / Avalara experience a bonus).
  • Excellent time management in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment, excellent communication (English), and organizational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum level of supervision.
