Flight Itinerary (About The Role)
We are seeking a Vice President of Cloud Platform and Operations to lead our transformation toward a unified cloud strategy while ensuring the resilience, scalability, and security of our mission-critical airline solutions. This role requires a strategic leader who can drive operational excellence, optimize cloud costs, and lead high-impact initiatives, including AI-driven automation, compliance, and customer trust-building.
As a key executive reporting directly to the CTO, the VP will own cloud operations, vendor relationships, site reliability, compliance, and incident/change management, ensuring 99.99% availability for millions of travelers worldwide. This is a high-impact leadership role with full executive backing to shape the future of our cloud platform.
What Your Journey Will Look Like (Responsibilities)
Cloud Strategy & Transformation
- Lead the company’s cloud unification strategy, transitioning from a multi-cloud to a single cloud platform.
- Architect and execute highly available, scalable, and cost-efficient cloud solutions.
- Evaluate emerging AI-driven cloud operations models and drive automation across cloud infrastructure.
Cloud Operations & SRE
- Strengthen and mature the cloud operations and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) function.
- Implement observability, monitoring, and proactive incident response strategies.
- Drive continuous performance, uptime, and disaster recovery improvements.
- Ensure the organization meets 99.99% availability SLAs for mission-critical airline solutions.
Security, Compliance & Risk Management
- Enforce ISO 27001 and other compliance standards, ensuring regulatory alignment.
- Implement robust security frameworks, including zero-trust architectures and data protection policies.
- Drive risk mitigation strategies for cloud security, disaster recovery, and regulatory compliance.
CI/CD & DevOps Excellence
- Improve and scale CI/CD pipelines to ensure efficient, resilient, and fully automated deployments.
- Enhance infrastructure-as-code (IaC) and DevOps practices to reduce downtime and deployment risks.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across the DevOps ecosystem.
Vendor & Cost Management
- Own cloud spend management and optimize a multi-million-dollar cloud infrastructure budget.
- Negotiate and manage strategic vendor relationships with cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and third-party services.
- Drive cost efficiency initiatives, including FinOps practices and cloud resource optimization.
Customer Engagement & Trust-Building
- Lead Incident and Change Management processes, ensuring transparent communication with customers.
- Engage directly with airline customers to consult, build trust, and address cloud operations concerns.
- Define and enforce customer SLAs, performance metrics, and operational excellence standards.
Leadership & Organizational Growth
- Assess and design a scalable cloud operations team structure that aligns with company growth ambitions.
- Build, mentor, and lead high-performing teams in SRE, DevOps, and Cloud Platform Engineering.
- Drive a culture of innovation, leveraging AI and automation to disrupt legacy cloud operations models.
What To Pack For This Trip (Qualifications)
- 10+ years of experience in Cloud Infrastructure, SRE, or Platform Engineering, with 5+ years in executive leadership (VP/Senior Director level).
- Proven success in migrating multi-cloud environments to a unified cloud strategy.
- Expertise in high-availability (99.99%+ uptime) cloud architectures supporting mission-critical applications.
- Strong knowledge of SOC2, ISO 27001, GDPR, and airline industry compliance.
- Hands-on experience with AI-driven automation, cloud cost management, and security frameworks.
- Deep expertise in CI/CD, DevOps, Kubernetes, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Proven ability to own and optimize cloud spend in the millions, managing cloud vendor negotiations.
