The Software Development Engineer III position is part of the Servicing team, which builds and supports Web and Native App traveler self-service experiences for all Expedia brands and partners. In this role, you will design, build, and operate servicing experiences across web and native apps, collaborating closely with Product, XD, and Program Management.
You will contribute to the technical design and implementation of scalable services and user experiences in the traveler Servicing space, including applying AI- and agentic-driven capabilities to help travelers resolve their needs quickly and intuitively. As an SDE III, you will be a hands-on engineer, owning features end-to-end and helping to elevate engineering practices on the team through high-quality code, testing, and operational excellence.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, and evolve highly available, performant, and secure services and applications, including system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling across multiple domains.
Implement clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, performing code reviews and providing technical guidance to improve code quality, reliability, and operational readiness.
Own end-to-end delivery of features and services, including requirements refinement, technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing support in production.
Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, improve observability and resiliency, and drive continuous improvements in availability, latency, and cost efficiency.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners (product, program, design, analytics, operations) to translate business and customer requirements into scalable technical solutions that work across multiple product areas.
Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.
5+ years of relevant professional experience.
Professional software development experience designing, implementing, and operating services or applications in at least one modern programming language and ecosystem.
Demonstrated experience owning the end-to-end lifecycle of services or components, including system design, API design, data modeling, testing, deployment, and production support.
Hands-on experience with distributed systems, service-oriented or microservice architectures, and working with data stores (relational and/or NoSQL) and messaging or streaming technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of full‑stack development experience across front‑end and back‑end services
Recent hands-on experience building and operating Node.js + React-based applications in production
Experience implementing and maintaining GraphQL-based backends
Experience designing and implementing service APIs and data models consumed by multiple teams or products
Experience running production services with monitoring, alerting, and on-call participation (e.g., pager rotation)
Experience as a Clean Code practitioner committed to producing high-quality code.
Solid experience with agile project methodologies and working with distributed teams.
Please note that this role is only available in Austin in alignment with our flexible work model which requires employees to be in-office at least three days a week. We are unable to offer relocation assistance for this role.
The total cash range for this position in Austin is $146,000.00 to $204,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $233,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
