Introduction to the Team
The Competitive Intelligence Data Platform team is responsible for building high‑quality data products that can be leveraged by Pricing, Marketing Managers, analysts, and ML scientists to power use cases that optimise EG's inventory, availability, and pricing in support of multiple teams across the EG business.
We are looking for a Data Engineer with experience in AI capabilities in building data products and applications, who can craft, develop, and own the next generation of scalable real-time and batch data products and services.
In this role, you will:
Develop fast, scalable, highly available, and reliable competitive intelligence software that identifies gaps in EG's performance compared to its competitors across multiple lines of business.
Work with Product managers to understand requirements and create data products with real time and batch access patterns
Leverage AI/LLM capabilities to gain insights from CI data.
Apply AI/LLM capabilities to help increasing help developer efficiency
Dockerise our apps and services for cloud deployment
Scale our batch datasets to allow for fast and accurate data analytics
Backend development building applications from concept to completion
Dedicated to delivering tested and optimised high performance code for a distributed SOA environment
Develop quality scalable, tested, and reliable applications using industry standard methodologies
Build and maintain quality software using world-class tools: Git, Splunk, Datadog,
Participate in resolution of production issues and lead efforts toward solutions
Experience and qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
2+ years of proven experience in related field
Technologies: Java, Scala, Spark, Kafka, Sql, Linux, Airflow, Hive/Iceberg, AWS
AI/LLM Ecosystem: Multiple LLMs, AI agents, RAGs, AI Driven Engineering
Practical experience building or integrating LLM-based automations or AI agents
Understanding of MCP servers, RAG, vector embeddings, and context design
Building internal AI developer tools or orchestrators
Experience building data pipelines with data from event streams, on distributed data systems (AWS/Hadoop)
Batch and stream processing experience using Spark, Kafka
Experience building data products at scale, both batch and realtime
You love the sight of a long list of automated test suites going green
You value strong pull request reviews, understand when to stand your ground and when to let go
You are a self-starter who is highly organised, communicative, quick learner, and team-oriented
