Senior Software Engineering Manager,
Air Reservations Booking – Book to Trip Management
Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.
The Air Reservations Booking team within Expedia Group’s Book to Trip Management organization powers the core of the traveler experience — the reservation flow that brings air travel to life. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the Booking team responsible for building and evolving the Air Booking platform that underpins all Expedia brands globally.
You will lead execution across complex backend systems spanning Tier 1 and Tier 2 services, guide engineers through modernization and automation initiatives, and partner closely with Product, Architecture, and Operations teams to deliver a seamless and reliable booking experience.
In this role, you will:
Lead a team of software engineers delivering high-scale, low-latency booking services.
Partner with product and architecture teams to define and execute the Air Booking roadmap.
Ensure system reliability, observability, and compliance with Expedia’s platform standards.
Drive initiatives to improve booking automation, resiliency, and customer experience.
Foster engineering excellence through mentorship, performance management, and hiring.
Collaborate across Air, Lodging, and Servicing domains to align with unified reservation objectives.
Balance near-term deliverables with long-term architectural evolution toward a unified Book-to-Trip vision.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent related professional experience.
9+ years of software engineering experience.
2+ years of experience managing engineers.
Proven delivery record in large-scale distributed or transaction-heavy backend systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong understanding of cloud-native design (preferably AWS), RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams through technical change and system modernization.
Deep experience driving operational excellence and service reliability.
Skilled at building high-performance teams and driving accountability through measurable goals.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills across engineering, product, and leadership peers.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
