Risk Specialist, Travel Disruptions Operations
The Travel Disruption Operations (TDOps) team drives effective risk management and crisis response for Expedia Group’s customers, reducing friction caused by travel disruptions and ensuring an overall positive customer experience. TDOps monitors a wide array of threats and incidents, both natural and manmade, and provides timely and accurate responses which may include stakeholder engagement, the implementation of emergency procedures, cross-team communication and crisis coordination.
TDOps specialists are analytical and curious, comfortable with ambiguity and biased towards action. They have excellent communication skills and are quick learners who are ready to push themselves and switch between diving into data one day and contributing to threat management platform building the next. They put the traveler's experience at the heart of what they do and ensure that Expedia delivers on its mission to power global travel for everyone, everywhere.
Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Traveler and Partner Service Platform, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.
In this role, you will:
Proactively identify and monitor risks, assess impact to Expedia Group's traveler's, and follow pre-determined escalation plans and mitigation strategies—leveraging data-driven approaches where possible
Monitor travel industry policies and partner impact linked to natural and manmade hazards, using structured and unstructured data sources
Craft and publish customer-facing travel alerts and internal knowledge articles for contact centre agents, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and timeliness
Use internal platforms to send travel disruption communications through prescribed systems and templates, with strong attention to detail and execution
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including data teams and Senior Risk Specialists, to support end-to-end crisis response and mitigation
Drive cross-functional collaboration, helping to shape Expedia Group’s response and preparedness frameworks
Extract, query, and analyse operational and traveler data (e.g., using Excel, SQL, Tableau) to uncover patterns, monitor KPIs, and inform operational decisions
Contribute to projects with a structured and data-informed mindset, providing regular updates and meeting agreed timelines
Stay informed on emerging global threats, travel technology trends, and data tools to continually improve workflows and drive innovation
Participate in quarterly on-call duty as part of the team’s 24/7 response rotation
Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Risk Management/Security Studies, Political Science/International Relations, Meteorology/Geography) or 2-4 years of equivalent professional experience
Experienced in or comfortable working with data—proficient in Excel, with familiarity in querying tools (e.g., SQL), dashboarding (e.g., Tableau), and recognising patterns across complex datasets
Excellent research and analytical skills, with a proven ability to extract insight from both quantitative and qualitative sources
Curious and proactive in learning new tools, frameworks, or emerging global risk signals; naturally inquisitive with a desire to improve how things work
A critical thinker with a solution-oriented approach—able to make decisions under pressure and with imperfect information
Crisis management or incident response experience is a strong plus—you’re comfortable operating in ambiguity, adapting to change, and managing urgency
Highly detail-oriented yet capable of switching between tactical tasks and strategic thinking
Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment, while knowing when to seek alignment or input
Flexible to support a 24x7 global operation, including rotating on-call responsibilities
Excellent verbal/written communication and comprehension skills, particularly in synthesising complex information for varied audiences
Proficient digital literacy across Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with HTML, Tableau, ServiceNow, Adobe, Jira, and SharePoint is a plus
