A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

The Sr. Director, Identity role sits within the Membership & Engagement team within the Expedia Technology division, driven by three core pillars: Loyalty, Identity, and Messaging. This is a critical technology role responsible for leading the technical strategy, architecture, and delivery of Expedia Group's global identity platform. The Identity team plays a crucial role in ensuring secure and seamless authentication and authorization for all travelers and partners across Expedia Group's platforms, while managing user profiles to enable deep personalization, strengthen engagement, protect data, and enhance the overall user experience. You'll be at the center of our global platform transformation, leading a team of 120+ engineers geographically dispersed across several time zones and will help steer one of Expedia Group's most strategic and important growth areas. This opportunity is ideal for an ambitious, innovative technology leader looking to build something transformative on a global scale. This is a role for a builder, not a maintainer.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and develop the strategic vision for Expedia Group's Identity platform, aligning it with the company's overall technology and business goals

  • Oversee the development and implementation of innovative identity solutions that enhance security, user experience, and scalability across all Expedia Group brands

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of identity services with other platforms and applications. Partner with product management to define and prioritize the Identity roadmap, ensuring it meets both business needs and technical requirements

  • Drive the adoption of best practices in identity management, including multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, and identity governance

  • Ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations and security standards across all identity-related initiatives

  • Optimize identity processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance the overall traveler and partner experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • 10+ years of experience in technology leadership roles, with a strong focus on identity and access management

  • Proven track record of successfully leading large-scale identity projects in a complex, global environment and deep understanding of identity protocols (e.g., OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML) and identity security best practices

  • Deep expertise in large-scale web and distributed systems, preferably managing authentication and identity for hundreds of millions of end users

  • Experience with cloud-based identity solutions and integrations (e.g., AWS and SaaS Identity solutions such as Okta)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build cross-functional relationships

  • Knowledge of data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their impact on identity management as well as familiarity with machine learning and AI applications in identity and fraud prevention
