Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering
Introduction to Team:
Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.
The Expedia Car Supply and Connectivity team builds the platform that powers the Car rental business for multiple brands within Expedia Group. The Car's platform supports millions of users every year in finding a suitable rental car using technologies such as ReactJS, Spring, MSSQL, DynamoDB, Redis at scale powered by AWS. We encourage experiments in new technologies while keeping a healthy balance between short-term and long-term goals. We deeply care about building a great experience to delight our customers.
What you will do:
Leadership & Mentorship: Lead development teams, mentor engineers, guide goal-setting, and support professional growth
Technical Excellence: Advocate for software design best practices, ensure high-quality code, and promote operational excellence (e.g., testing, scalability, resiliency)
Architecture & Design: Participate in technical design discussions, recommend frameworks and patterns, and define schemas for large-scale workloads
Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will work closely with Product Managers to influence product strategy and resolve product development roadmap. Provide planning support for the technology roadmap
Process & Efficiency: Identify bottlenecks, implement process improvements, and supervise resource use to reduce redundancy and waste
Strategic Planning: Estimate resources, assess risks, allocate talent, and lead execution of new initiatives aligned with business goals
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent work experience
10+ years of proven work experience in the field of Software Engineering and at least 3+ years in technical leadership with a team size of more than 6 developers
You have strong technical foresight which allows you to be responsible for the technical domain; identify strengths and weaknesses among languages and select among available technologies to implement and tackle the needs of the business
You have in-depth working knowledge of architecting, maintaining, and scaling backend services that deal with connecting to external services
Preferred Qualifications:
You have leadership experience as a manager of managers; you have managed at least 1 people manager in a prior role
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
