PR Specialist, UK Media Relations, Expedia, Hotels & Vrbo
The mission of the Media Relations team is to boost awareness, trust, and loyalty for Expedia, Hotels and Vrbo. We are looking for a PR pro to represent Expedia Group’s brands in the UK.
As the PR Specialist for the UK, you will be responsible for talking with media every day to build positive relationships and drive locally relevant, high-quality outcomes for our brands. You will work closely with the UK Sr PR Specialist and other team members within the company, to shape the narrative in the market and to drive the three distinct Expedia Brands to new heights. You will act as an invaluable consultant for the wider team on key UK PR campaigns, areas of sensitivity and local cultural nuances.
You will possess a strong network of media contacts and a keen eye for developing stories and initiatives, which will gain the attention of both the media and the British public. You are a proactive individual that will constantly be growing and building relationships with British media through unique and engaging ways.
You’ll be based in London, reporting to the Senior Manager, EMEA Media Relations, Expedia, Hotels & Vrbo and work closely with the wider global Brand PR, EMEA Media Relations and Social Media teams. You will have experience in an agency and/or business as well as possessing a can-do attitude, be self-driven, and able to learn quickly.
What you’ll do:
- Regularly interact with media; including online, print, radio, and television outlets, to secure stand out coverage for the Expedia Brands in the UK
- Ensure the Expedia, Hotels and Vrbo brands are regularly mentioned in media outlets by using your creative storytelling and data-mining skills to develop trends and stories
- Respond to reactive media requests in a timely manner
- Assist in handling reactive PR issues that influence perceptions of the brands and the greater Expedia Group business
- Help to develop PR editorial/activity calendars for market / brand, and assist in leading press trips and media events
- Responsible for monitoring all industry and competitor media coverage, including managing coverage reports, drafting status reports, and providing business event progress and reports as they occur
- Help to define success metrics for media relations activity and PR campaigns
Who you are:
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a media relations or PR role in a consumer agency environment
- Experience in UK media relations with consumer media contacts across print, online, and broadcast outlets
- Passionate about taking on fluid situations, as well as multiple overlapping projects at one time
- Outstanding ability to synthesize data into logical conclusions and recommendations to uncover unique storytelling opportunities
- Excellent time management and organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- A positive, self-starting attitude with strong attention to detail, and willingness to learn and solve new challenges
- A natural creative collaborator who is agile, hands on, solution-focused, and can adapt quickly to match the travel landscape
- Experience in consumer product and/or travel industry is a plus
- Excellent writing, communications, and interpersonal skills
