Introduction to the team
Are you fascinated by data and building robust data streaming and batch pipelines that process massive amounts of data at scale and speed to provide crucial insights on Travelers and Partners? This is precisely what we, the Service Data Engineering group in Expedia, do. Our mission is 'transforming Expedia’s service data assets into Data Products that deliver intelligence and real-time insights for our customers and Partners.' We work on building data assets and products to support a variety of applications that are used by 5000+ external and internal analysts and business users.
In this role, you will:
Leads data domain requirements, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional knowledge sharing
Resolves complex technical issues and ensures smooth execution of innovative ideas
Collaborates across organizations, aligning technology with business outcomes
Drives process improvements, milestone planning, and product lifecycle management
Designs and maintains real-time/batch data pipelines using advanced tools and best practices
Lead data quality efforts, identifies inefficiencies, and bridges technical and non-technical gaps
Manages team talent, resource allocation, and professional development
Tracks industry trends and integrates customer feedback for continuous improvement
Encourages and supports the professional development of individual contributors by developing and building Individual and Team Talent
Experience and qualifications:
8+ years of experience in Data and Software Engineering
3+ years of experience in People Management, managing more than 6+ member data engineering teams, including full-time employees and vendors
3+ years of experience in impeccable stakeholder management experience across geographies
Experience building teams and understanding talent-hiring philosophy
Executes capacity planning/allocation of teams of 10 or more
Leads more than three multi-quarter data engineering projects
Experienced in working in at least two multi-quarter data engineering projects, primarily in Java/Scala, and good knowledge of SQL, etc
Built high-performance, scalable data products in Streaming and Batch paradigms, preferably in Kafka, Kotlin, Springboot, Spark, SQL, AWS Cloud, etc
Drive technical design end to end of at least 3 data engineering projects
Able to justify technology choices to technical and non-technical observers
Mentors team members. Defines team goals and how they fit a business need across multiple teams working together
Deliver solutions to business problems spanning teams
Deliver and influence product roadmap, working in collaboration with product team
The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
