Principal Program Manager

Expedia Product & Technology builds innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. The Principal Program Manager role is part of the Strategic Initiatives Program Management team within the Enablement organization, driving large, cross-functional programs that deliver business-critical outcomes. This dynamic team leverages a blend of Agile and traditional methodologies to address complex challenges, improve processes, and enhance organizational collaboration. In this role, you will build best practices in program management, help define and set standards for the team, lead transformative initiatives, mentor teams through Agile practices, and drive strategic programs that impact the organization’s efficiency and innovation at scale.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the largest, most complex, highest priority programs by building trusted relationships with senior leaders, developing and managing program plans, identifying resource needs, and ensuring delivery of milestones while monitoring progress and proactively addressing risks and issues.
  • Develop and promote best practices in the program management discipline and model them in program delivery efforts
  • Drive Agile best practices and methodologies by mentoring teams and determining when to apply Agile versus traditional approaches to optimize outcomes.
  • Enhance collaboration and stakeholder engagement by bringing together diverse perspectives, maintaining transparent communication on progress, and addressing stakeholder concerns to build trust and alignment.
  • Streamline processes and improve workflows by analyzing bottlenecks, identifying opportunities to re-use patterns, and utilizing extensive experience with implementing system-wide process improvements across organizational boundaries.
  • Deliver exceptional business outcomes by leveraging deep knowledge of product and software development lifecycles, ensuring requirements are met, and applying technical best practices like test-driven development and pair programming.
  • Craft impactful communication materials tailored to diverse audiences, translating complex concepts into clear, actionable insights through presentations, policies, and reports.

Experience and qualifications:

  • You have 10-15 years of professional experience managing large, cross-discipline and cross-domain, mission-critical programs in dynamic, highly technical environments, demonstrating your ability to influence leadership decisions, drive complex initiatives, build and execute structured plans effectively, ultimately producing impactful outcomes.
  • You are comfortable working with ambiguous scenarios, highly capable of bringing order from chaos without overburdening teams with overengineered process and structure.
  • You have a track record of leading through change, confidently implementing best practices in change management and helping leaders understand and navigate the impacts of change on their programs and teams.
  • You bring hands-on expertise in Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, or Extreme Programming) and understand when to apply Agile versus traditional approaches to achieve the best results.
  • You possess strong executive communication and senior stakeholder management skills, including nuanced storytelling, enabling you to build trust, facilitate cross-functional collaboration, and present complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • You have extensive experience streamlining processes and improving workflows by analyzing bottlenecks, applying industry best practices, and driving efficiencies across teams.
  • You have demonstrated advanced skills in facilitating as well as making data-driven decisions, influencing effective prioritization and maximizing business results.
  • You are highly proficient in leveraging functional and technical knowledge to guide program delivery, including understanding the product and software development lifecycles, process improvement techniques, and industry best practices.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $224,000.00 to $313,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $358,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
