The Software Development Engineer II role is part of the Universal Messaging Platform (UMP). UMP is a critical solution for configuring, scheduling, and delivering personalized notifications across diverse channels. Your expertise will drive consistent, intelligent communication experiences for travelers, ensuring seamless interactions with Expedia Group brands. In this role, you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing UMP’s design time capabilities and revolutionizing how travelers engage with our brands.

Your contributions will directly impact travelers worldwide, ensuring they receive timely, relevant, and personalized communications. By joining our team, you’ll shape the future of travel messaging and elevate user experiences across Expedia Group. This role combines technical excellence, and global thinking. You’ll play a pivotal role in advancing UMP’s design time capabilities and revolutionizing how travelers engage with our brands.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to design, and develop new platform capabilities to enhance our communication platform

  • Own and deliver tested and optimized high-performance code for a distributed messaging environment.

  • Participate in resolution of production issues and lead efforts toward solutions.

  • Contribute to vigilantly rewriting, refactoring, and perfecting code.

  • Work with product management and operations in an agile environment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance UMP’s design time experience.

  • Develop and maintain features that empower users to create, edit, and manage communications seamlessly.

  • Integrate a templating engine to streamline template creation across multiple channels.

  • Optimize performance and reliability for critical notifications.

  • Design solutions for parsing, hydration, and globalization for content to support multiple points of sales.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience Software development.

  • Preferred - Previous experience with Java.

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in a Technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

  • Problem solver and an excellent coder with good understanding of algorithms, data structures, distributed applications, and data modeling.

  • Passionate about quality of work, you are persistent and uncompromising.

  • Experienced in solving distributed computing problems, you have worked with on real time streaming, distributed messaging platforms and have helped operationalize it.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
