The People Analytics team at Expedia Group is a rapidly growing team that uses data to understand our organization’s health and to define and shape the employee experience. We focus on using data-driven approaches to make better decisions about workforce management and we play a crucial role in shaping HR strategies by analyzing trends, providing insights and recommending actionable changes.

The Data Engineer II in the People Data Platform team will develop and deploy scalable analytics solutions that embed seamlessly into the day-to-day of our employees. Your main responsibility will be working with the team and our customers to maintain and expand our next-generation data architecture in addition to maintaining and growing the existing People Data Business needs. Moving to our new architecture and is key to enabling our mission to power global travel for everyone, everywhere.
In this role, you will:
You will build/extend toolsets, create/maintain tables & calculations, and create systems documentation.
You will work with Expedia Group Data Platform Team for our design, building, and enhancement of our People Data Platform.
You will utilize CI/CD frameworks to optimize and automate ingestion, cleaning, and export processes for a variety of data sources into and out of the People Data Platform.
You will drive data investigations across organizations inside and outside of HR to deliver a resolution of technical, procedural, and operational issues.
You will advocate for enhancements within our systems that will allow the People Data Platform to run efficiently with high quality data.
You will assist in managing and influencing large scale projects to set the future direction for people data and analytics across Expedia.
Experience and qualifications
BS/MS in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
4+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating large data platforms.
4+ years leading complex data warehousing and analytics projects, including using AWS technologies— S3, EC2, EMR, and other data technologies.
Deep expertise with Tableau BI design & development (requirements gathering/development/QA/UAT/deployment).
Strong familiarity with People data and workforce data structures.
Expert in SQL and relational databases (Trino strongly preferred).
Expert is efficient & scalable database structures and database design.
Experience with Java, Python, Spark, or similar programming languages.
Experience in Cloud Data Technologies and optimizing Big Data is a plus.
Experience in implementing CI/CD methodologies and working in Agile SCRUM
Skilled at debugging and optimizing code and automate routine tasks (such as data validation).
