Senior Portfolio & Planning Manager

Are you an outstanding Portfolio & Planning Manager who is looking to join a team at the heart of Expedia's business? The Traveler and Service Platform (TPSP) organization is the customer service department of Expedia, providing customer care to our B2C and B2B customers. Our philosophy is to deliver the best service experience in travel for our travelers and partners using our service platform. We have made great progress, but there is more to do, and the organization has many exciting opportunities ahead.

The Portfolio & Programs team has the dual roles of managing TPSP’s portfolio of projects/initiatives to achieve the strategic aims of the department and the wider Expedia Group. The team also provides Program Management services for the department, tackling the largest most complex cross functional initiatives.

As the Senior Portfolio & Planning Manager you will play a pivotal role supporting TPSP as well as the broader Expedia Group. You will facilitate the development of the department by bringing a rare blend of exceptional organizational skills, stakeholder management, commercial acumen, and leadership skills. Using these skills, you will manage TPSP’s Portfolio Management process ensuring that throughout the year our people are always focused on the highest impact work. This role is unique and inherently cross-functional - you will collaborate across the multiple teams that develop and run our platform to envision and deliver solutions.

What you’ll do:

Portfolio & Planning Management

  • Lead & facilitate TPSP’s quarterly planning cycles. Coordinating with leadership and central planning structures, you will guide a large group of senior leaders through the process to ensure that the department has a clear set of priorities each quarter

  • Continuously developed the TPSP Portfolio Management processes and mechanisms, to drive engagement and efficiency throughout the process

  • Develop and own intake protocols to enable leadership a clear view of net new asks and their impact to the organization. You will also influence the wider organization to ensure that requests are inline with EG Service Model

  • Develop and own launch protocols, which allows TPSP Operational leadership a clear view of upcoming launches and sequence them to ensure service KPIs are maintained

  • You will operate effectively within the organization's formal and informal structures by building relationships across departments and understanding the roles and perspectives of diverse partner groups

  • You will work across team boundaries with multiple portfolio & planning managers to appropriately prioritize work to align with overall initiative, organization, and company goals

  • You will actively identify and drive resolution on cross-team issues, scope changes, resource constraints, and other impediments

  • You will continually build knowledge about our operations, products, capabilities, usage, and future traveler, partner and agent needs

Who you are:

Experienced Portfolio & Planning Manager

  • Significant experience as Portfolio Manager for large complex organizations

  • Exceptionally well organized and customer focused; you enjoy putting processes in place that enable your colleagues to focus on delivery, whilst still enabling them to meaningfully participate within the process

  • Experience owning or influencing strategy & vision, roadmaps, and backlog prioritization

  • Proven ability to understand and discuss technical concepts, manage trade-offs and evaluate opportunistic new ideas with internal and external partners

Leadership / Interpersonal / Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results by working across subject areas and organizational boundaries

  • Excellent influencing and relationship building skills as well as experience working with senior management and leadership

  • Experience working cross-culturally and leading cross-functionally, and ability to adapt personal style to different environments

  • Highly skilled communicator, able to synthesize large quantities of information, distill the key points and put together high-quality communication artefacts across multiple channels

Problem Solving / Structuring / Analytical Abilities

  • Strong strategic and critical thinking skills; ability to see the “big picture” while also diving into details when needed

  • Creative decision maker who can work independently and apply quantitative rigor to analyses and tradeoff decisions

  • Strong program planning skills with experience structuring large initiatives in effective and meaningful ways

Experience / Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or Engineering field or related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience

  • 7+ years of related experience in a world-class consulting firm, technology platform product management and/or large strategic program management

  • Experience with using Jira, Confluence and Slack (workflow automation) desirable but not essential

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $155,000.00 to $217,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $248,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
