Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering

The Property Status team’s mission is to drive partner self-service goals by setting new properties live automatically, to control enabling and disabling of all properties, and to provide critical insight to users about failing requirements. The Onboarding team’s mission is to deliver exceptional user experiences to users who are creating new properties and to coach them to be successful in Expedia’s marketplace.

The software we are developing will enable scalability of our onboarding processes (both human and API-based) by automating the enforcement of key requirements. It will streamline users’ onboarding experiences by coaching them on what matters most for their success. What you will do:

  • Lead implementation teams and cultivate the execution of new insights or approaches.

  • Anticipate and recognize bottlenecks in work processes between teams and makes suggestions for ongoing improvement.

  • Create different project phases and resolve priorities, working closely with product management peers.

  • Partner with the business to have a clear understanding of how the technology stack is tied to business outcomes and our bottom line.

  • Act as a spokesperson for software design standard methodologies - researching and recommending frameworks and architectural/code design patterns.

  • Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability).

  • Have broad knowledge of the entire product and in EG's languages, frameworks, cloud services, toolkits, methodologies enabling you can help with any component, or type of issues.

  • Convey the right information to the correct parties to ensure that proposals for improvements are given the proper consideration and technical issues are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Remain informed on technology trends. Examine inefficiencies in the existing stack operation and encourage engineers to improve them.

  • Bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel. Report on team status dedicatedly and listen for suggestions to improve lagging project work.

  • Review the skill and expertise requirements to accomplish team goals and identify staffing and talent resources to fill project roles.

  • Guide employees and managers in the development of team and individual goals, providing regular and specific feedback, and assessing individual and team performance.

  • Evaluate the full complement of team talent, identify gaps, and implement action plans to fill gaps and drive achievement of goals.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree or Masters in a related Technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.

  • An established People Leader who leads a team of Engineers.

  • Equivalent experience includes: Recruited 5+ engineers into own team, performance managed at least 3 individual contributors, led individuals across different locations.

  • Someone who motivates teams to get things done and knows how to cut through bureaucracy to get results.

  • Strong technical skills which allows you to be responsible for multiple technical domains; explaining technology choices to technical and non-technical observers

  • Acted as a mentor, both individual contributors and managers as well

  • Defined team key results and how they fit a business need across multiple teams working together – working as an enabler for multiple teams to then achieve these goals

  • Collaborating closely with the product team you have delivered and influenced a product roadmap

  • First-hand experience with multiple groups of technologies: backend, streaming and frontend.

  • Worn multiple role responsibility hats previously and have shown the ability to stretch yourself across roles.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
