Software Development Engineer II

Do you love working with a creative engineering team to build systems critical to the company’s bottom line? Are you excited about working on technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS technologies?

Our team is looking for a Software Development Engineer II to join the Reservations team (part of the Search and Supply organization), responsible for the Reservations that connect our Travelers and our Supply Partners.

As a member of the team, you'll build Reservations capabilities that will help delight both our Travelers and Suppliers. You will help build cloud based micro-services and event-driven systems which power the tools our Supply Partners use to interact with their reservations at Expedia Group.

What you’ll do:

  • You will collaborate with team members to co-develop and solve problems.

  • You will proactively reach out to meet peers across environment and collaborate to solve problems.

  • You will take advantage of opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area.

  • You will seek knowledge from subject matter experts when needed.

  • You understand the importance of system and technology integration and the basic features and facilities involved in the integration process.

  • You will develop and test standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements.

  • You will apply software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions.

  • You will help coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues.

  • You will think broadly and understand how, why and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization.

  • You can apply formal training methods to current workload. You feel comfortable challenging authority/the status quo.

  • You report clearly on current work status. You ask challenging questions when empowered to do so.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in a Technical field; or equivalent related professional experience.

  • Equivalent experience includes:

    • Developing software in a team environment of at least 5 engineers (agile, version control, etc.)

    • Building and maintaining a software project/product in production environments in public/hybrid cloud infrastructure.

  • Strong proficiency with API Design and Development, web services and object-oriented design.

  • Experience using Java or Kotlin preferred.

  • Proficient with algorithms and data structures, design patterns, multi-threading, concurrency, caching and distributed systems.

  • Experienced with cloud-computing platforms such as Amazon Web Services.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Understanding of how projects fit together within your team.

  • Able to understand moderately complex systems.

  • Ability to test and monitor your own code.

  • Understanding of testing and monitoring tools.

  • Ability to debug applications.

  • Understanding of how teams’ goals fit a business need.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $112,000.00 to $156,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $179,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
