Senior Public Relations Specialist
As the Senior PR Specialist for Expedia Group in Australia and New Zealand, you will be responsible for managing New Zealand consumer public relations activity while supporting the Australian team on key campaigns, projects and Trans-Tasman activity.
Working across leading travel brands Expedia, Bookabach, Stayz and Wotif, you’ll be tasked with developing and carrying out creative, highly engaging PR activities that resonate strongly with travellers and top tier media.
You will work closely with stakeholders within the company to tell the Expedia Brands narrative and build brand love among target audiences. You will act as an invaluable media relations advisor, contact and storyteller for the brands.
In this role, you will possess a strong understanding of the consumer and travel media landscape, with key top tier media contacts. You will have a keen eye for developing stories and initiatives which will break through the noise and cement Expedia Brands as leading travel experts.
You’ll be based in Auckland or Sydney, reporting to the Head of ANZ PR, Expedia Brands and work closely with the global Communications and Marketing teams, as well as local ANZ stakeholders. You will have experience in an agency and/or in-house public relations role as well as possess a can-do attitude, be self-driven, and able to learn quickly.
What you’ll do:
Develop strategic story angles and PR initiatives that will result in standout coverage for the Expedia Brands, including campaign ideation, project management, media relations strategy, development of press materials, and more
Develop, implement and localize integrated communications plans, often within a global project team, while also working closely with the social media team and the broader marketing and communications teams
Responsible for New Zealand media relations across earned, owned and paid channels within PR’s remit
Proactively identify opportunities to drive brand love through earned media and storytelling
Use and analyze data and insights to inform storytelling and support business initiatives
Work with PR agency and other vendors on campaign development and execution
Manage press trips and media events
Who you are:
Proven 4+ years' experience in either a PR agency or in-house role
Strong experience in media relations possessing excellent understanding of the ANZ media landscape, and key consumer media contacts across print, online and broadcast media outlets
Previous experience in the travel industry and New Zealand market is a plus
Experience dealing with local and global stakeholders
Exceptional teambuilding and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage changing requirements as well as having outstanding project management and organizational skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to synthesize data into logical conclusions and recommendations to uncover unique storytelling opportunities for Expedia
Ability to think creatively and adapt quickly to match the travel landscape
Able to handle fast-paced environments, with quick-turn timelines
Consumer product and/or travel industry experience preferred
Issues/crisis management experience a plus
