Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering - Payment Services

Development managers ‘cover a lot of bases’ in terms of staff, development, quality, projects, and operations. This position provides the chance to lead a team of first-rate engineers in the creation of our next generation of innovative payment solutions. Successful candidates have an established history of developing and delivering sophisticated distributed software systems and are driven to achieve results in a fast paced, dynamic environment.

What you'll do:

  • Lead and drive your team to innovate and deliver timely, high quality roadmap features with agility

  • Perform reviews of all designs to make sure that they address failure modes, scalability, security and are suitable for tier 1 services

  • Hire top talent within your own team and participate in recruiting activities across other teams

  • Guide engineering staff career development by providing meaningful and actionable feedback, mentoring and coaching, and seeking opportunities within and outside of your team

  • Operate and support the services you own, manage an on-call rotation, and ensure prompt incident response to resolve issues.

  • Review operational metrics, lead root cause analysis of anomalies, and drive appropriate corrective actions

  • Identify and implement operational improvements to your services

  • Cross-collaborate with product and program management teams to maintain a roadmap for your team

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's in computer science or equivalent experience

  • 3+ years of people management experience, leading a software engineering team

  • 8+ years software development work experience (Java experience strongly preferred)

  • Experience in web application development and associated skills (HTTP, SOAP, REST, web services, etc.) in a high-stakes environment

  • Experience with relational database design and hands-on SQL coding

  • Thorough understanding of software development technologies, specifically those used in large-scale, end-to-end distributed solutions

  • Strong written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management

  • Proven track record of building consensus across an enterprise

  • Self-motivated individual, able to work through ambiguity and under pressure to meet commitments within tight time constraints

  • Solid grasp of Agile Software Development mechanics

  • High degree of competency within all phases of SDLC - Estimation, Scheduling, Design, Development, Testing and Delivery, and Maintenance

  • Passion for people management, mentoring and growing software engineers to meet their career goals

  • Prior experience developing fault tolerant distributed systems is a huge plus

  • Prior experience in Service Oriented Architecture implementations, service versioning, and backwards/forwards compatibility also a plus

  • Prior experience of building and operating services in AWS is preferred

  • Prior experience with e-Commerce systems, Payments Solutions and Providers is also preferred

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $161,500.00 to $226,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
