Sr. Manager-Technical Product Management-Enterprise Data Quality and Observability

Data is a key component of Expedia’s travel platform. To unlock the full potential of Expedia’s data we are building capabilities that will enable consistent and trusted data exchange across the enterprise. The Enterprise Data Management and Governance (EDMG) at Expedia, is looking for a Senior Manager, Technical Product Management – Enterprise DQ and Data Observability.

As a Senior Manager - Product Management, the role will play a pivotal role in shaping the growth and expansion of Data Quality product suite. The role will work to enable Enterprise data quality program and its adoption. As the Product owner you will be responsible to support implementation of the Data Quality framework and lead driving the implementation efforts. This person will be a DQ subject matter expert working closely with business partners to develop data quality products and drive continuous improvements and automation in the data quality area.

What you'll do:

  • Drive implementation of data quality solutions to support data profiling, data quality monitoring and data remediation services, identify operational efficiencies to support trust in data assets

  • You will bridge the gap between technical data teams and business stakeholders to drive the creation of data products that provide actionable insights and value to our customers

  • You will learn about our key users across product, marketing, and data analytics, deeply understand their problems and needs, and then go the extra mile to define and launch innovations that address those problems with the broadest possible impact across the customer base

  • Understand and analyze diverse needs from our customers, think strategically, and lead with data-driven decisions

  • Provide guidance to Data Science and Engineering team on performing analysis to define Observability controls

  • Own Data Control dashboards outlining data issues and data exceptions and triaging the prioritization of data issues

  • Work with the platform team to translate and determine technical requirements for the Data Quality Suite of applications

  • Work with the data engineers to determine progress against Data Quality Suite updates, provide technical feedback on tasks and assist testing updates to ensure they meet acceptance criteria

  • Demonstrate knowledge of data structures to identify structural deficiencies or opportunities for enhanced delivery and report potential data quality issues

Who you are:

  • 7+ years of experience in a product role, leading and scaling products with significant strategic scope and complexity

  • 5 years of experience in supporting an effective enterprise data quality strategy, applying foundational data management principles, to analyze data, and identify bottlenecks, design flaws, and surface opportunities for data optimization

  • Technical expertise: You possess 2+ years of experience in working on databases, schema design, analytics, BI, or data-oriented services products, demonstrating a strong understanding of software systems, solutions, and technical architecture

  • Leadership: You have a track record of fostering collaboration with other product teams while overseeing the work of large groups of engineers

  • User-focused design: You have a keen eye for design and a passion for creating consumer-grade products that modernize and enhance financial operations experiences, with a focus on data/analytics/reporting/BI

  • Fast pace: You’re a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels in navigating ambiguity, and is driven to make a meaningful impact

  • Customer-centric approach: You have a history of driving customer engagements, empathizing with the challenges that businesses face, and effectively communicating the value of your products to users

  • Analytical prowess: You demonstrate a strong aptitude for digging deep into data, thinking from first principles, and consistently delivering optimal results

  • Exceptional communication skills: You possess strong written and verbal communication skills, allowing you to articulate customer problems with precision and engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Entrepreneurial mindset: You have entrepreneurial experience or enjoy working on new, green-field products, embracing the challenge of creating innovative solutions in an ever-evolving market

  • Detailed understanding of Data Quality / Observability process along with optimizing familiarity with A/B testing and iterative improvements to data products, maximizing their effectiveness and impact

  • Familiarity with ETL pipelines, data modeling, data ingestion, and fundamentals of data engineering

  • Data Product Development: Lead the end-to-end development of data products, including defining user stories, managing sprint planning, and coordinating with data engineers and analysts

  • Work with the platform team to translate and determine technical requirements for the Data Quality Suite of applications

  • Work with the data engineers to understand the current challenges for continuous monitoring of Data Quality Suite updates and synthesize them into requirements and detailed acceptance criteria

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $161,500 to $226,000. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $148,500 to $208,000. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $237,500, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $161,500.00 to $226,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $258,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
