Job Description

About the role:

It’s rare that brand strategists have the opportunity to truly determine the direction of one of the world’s biggest brands. Booking.com is looking for a transformational Principal: Brand Strategy to help us do exactly that.

You’ll be responsible for defining key elements of Booking.com’s global brand strategy, including our current and future propositions. Your work will help ensure we’re giving our customers what they really want and need, while fueling growth – both brand and commercial. You’ll do that by getting under the skin of our customers, in close collaboration with our exciting research and product colleagues. And once you know what we need to do, you’ll help make it happen. That will take winning hearts and minds across Marketing and the wider business, to ensure we’re clear, aligned and our brand shows up in the best way possible.

This is not a role for a strategist used to implementing someone else’s thinking (or indeed paying other people to do the thinking for them). This is a role for someone with big ideas, big storytelling capability, and a big passion for transformation.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Build highly effective, 3-5 year customer-centric brand strategies, at a global, market, product or other level
  • In order to do so, develop and maintain a deep understanding of both the Booking business and our audiences, and be the champion of their needs – always
  • Work closely with the Insights (research) team to use data and insights to inform all ideas and decisions
  • Continuously evolve strategies and plans to meet changes in our customer and cultural context
  • Own the implementation of these strategies, through working collaboratively with colleagues across the business
  • Help teams bring our brand to life in both product and communications translating strategies into action to achieve brand and commercial objectives
  • Ensure the right measures are in place to understand and supervise performance
  • Be an ambassador for brand both internally and externally as required

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Strong experience crafting and leading the implementation of brand strategies, initiatives and plans, within (or for) a large global business
  • Excellent storytelling capabilities and the ability to distill sophisticated concepts into accessible and compelling communications
  • Highly analytical, with evidence of ability to translate data, insights and business goals into strategies
  • Credibility, presence and strong influencing and stakeholder management skills, including senior collaborators.
  • Experience of operating in a matrix structure and delivering objectives via others
  • Ability to operate effectively under pressure and in ambiguous, agile environments
  • Excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to overcome unpredictable challenges
  • Excellent internal and external relationship-building skills
