Roaming IREG Engineer
Airalo
Hi, I’m Peter, VP of Networks at Airalo!
Our team ensures customers have instant, smooth connectivity from the moment they purchase their plan to the moment they arrive at their destination. We go beyond standard mobile service, building innovative solutions that enhance the traveller experience. We’re looking for curious engineers who want to design the future of global networks. Think outside the box, reverse-engineer solutions from ambitious product ideas, and help pave the way for Airalo’s leadership as a global connectivity partner.
Airalo’s fully remote Networks team is growing. You’ll work on the systems and infrastructure that keep over 20 million travellers connected reliably and securely at global scale. Solve complex technical challenges, optimize processes, and experiment with better ways to keep the world connected.
As our IREG Engineer, you are the technical bridge between our Core Network and the rest of the world. You will own the end-to-end testing and launch of new Roaming Partners. You aren't just checking if a SIM works; you are validating the signaling, data throughput, and voice quality across international borders to ensure our global footprint is seamless and robust.
Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and execution of GSMA IREG test cases (Stage 4 testing) for Data (IR.35), Voice (IR.24), and VoLTE (IR.92).
- Perform deep-dive protocol analysis on SS7, Diameter, and GTP signaling to resolve interconnect failures with international carriers.
- Coordinate with the Core Engineering team to ensure correct data builds in the HSS/HLR and STP/DRA to support new roaming launches.
- Manage remote testing probes and physical test SIM cards to simulate real-world traveler experiences in over 100+ countries.
Must Haves
- Direct experience working at a Roaming Hub, IPX Provider, or Tier 1 MNO.
- Proven track record of executing IR.24, IR.35, and IR.92 test suites from scratch.
- Mastery of Wireshark/pcap analysis for MAP, Diameter, and GTP protocols.
- Deep understanding of SoR (Steering of Roaming) logic and how it affects IREG test results.
- Comprehensive understanding of SS7/SIGTRAN and Diameter routing architectures.
Nice to Have
- Experience with 5G Roaming (HTTP/2 signaling) and SEPP (Security Edge Protection Proxy).
- Knowledge of TADIG (Transferred Account Data Interchange Group) for billing validation.
